Caution:

  • It is not recommended to disable UAC permanently in Windows 8.1, 10 and Server 2012 / 2016 / 2019.
  • Once the needed task is complete, you should re-enable UAC.
    • See Option 2 Step 7

Option 1: Adjust Windows UAC settings

  1. Select Start, and in the Search field, type UAC.
  2. Select Change User Account Control settings.
  3. Move the slider bar down to Never notify and click OK.
  4. Click Yes to “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”
  5. Reboot for changes to take effect.
  6. Once the needed task is complete, re-enable UAC so that the use of Metro apps (touch-screen-friendly apps) continue to function.

Option 2: Disable UAC in Registry

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. In the Search field, type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Click Yes if prompted.
  4. Select File, Export, and then save a backup somewhere you will remember.
  5. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  6. In the right pane, double-click EnableLUA.
  7. Change Value Data to 0.
    • To turn on UAC, repeat these steps and change this Value Data to 1.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close Registry Editor.
  10. Reboot for changes to take effect.
