How to change the server for attachment links when the target files have been moved to another server or the server name changes
Description
Cause
Resolution

This process is only for attachments that are linked from a source outside the database. It does not apply to the physical files in the Attachments folder of the database as these should not need to be changed.

  1. Open Database Administration and log in as a Sysadmin
  2. On the left menu, click on Toolbox and then Company tools.
  3. On the right, select the Company
  4. Select the radio button for "Assign new server name in file paths for linked file attachments:
  5. In the Old server name, enter the name of the old server
  6. In the New server name, enter the new name or IP address
  7. Click the button to Update File Paths
  8. Verify the path for the attachments is now correct

.

Important: This process only changes the server name at the beginning of the path, not the entire filepath. So, if the files are moved from another server, you must move the topmost file in the path (after the server name).

Example: The filepath is 'myserver\accounting\invoices\invoice123.pdf'. If moving to a new server, you would need to move the entire 'accounting' folder as Database Administration only changes the server name. If the folder is shared, then you must share it on the name using the exact same share name.
