1099 filings are submitted by Form Type and Federal ID. The NEC, MISC, INT, and DIV are each different form types. Each form type will be a separate filing and require a separate 1096, even though the Federal ID is the same. For example, the 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC are different form types but are being submitted under the same Federal ID. The 1099-NEC will be processed and submitted in its own filing and 1096 form. Then 1099-MISC will be processed separately and submitted in its own filing and 1096 form. Aatrix data files can only be merged to submit one filing when the Form Type AND Federal ID are both the same between the data files. For example, if you have two company data folders with the same Federal ID and you need to generate 1099-NECs from both data folders, you would merge Aatrix data files into one filing because the Federal ID and the Form Type are the same.
