NOTE: for information on how to run Sage 100 Application Server as a Service (rather than as an Application) - see Related Resources Configuring the Application Server Before you can access Sage 100 Advanced or Premium from a workstation, you must first configure the Application Server on the Sage 100 server. It must be configured using the following steps to access the Sage 100 server: To configure the Application Server - On the server where Sage 100 is installed, from the Windows Start menu, run the Application Server Configuration program. This program should be a shortcut in the Sage program group.
- In the Application Server Configuration window, click the Server tab. The server selected in the Server field is the logical name to identify the Application Server. This does not refer to the physical machine name of the server.
- Verify the KeepAlives check box is cleared.
- For security purposes, the first setting you should change is the socket number on which the Application Server listens for requests. By default, this is set to 10000, but can be any valid socket (port) between 9000 and 10000. Make sure the socket you choose is not being used by another service or application on this server.
- After making changes, select Apply to accept the changes.
- Click Start to start the Application Server. In the upper-right corner, the Status field changes from Stopped to Running. Click Exit to exit the Application Server Configuration program. Users can now access Sage 100 after performing workstation setup.
- The Application Server continues to run and will service incoming requests from Sage 100 clients, even though you have exited the Application Server Configuration program.
- In this current configuration, a user must remain logged onto the server where the Application Server is running. The user logged on to this server must have access to all resources required by Sage 100 (all rights to all program and data folders in Sage 100).
Starting the Application Server as an Application After the Application Server has been configured once, you do not need to re-run the Application Server Configuration program to start the Application Server. You can start the Application Server by selecting the Application Server Startup menu item from the Windows Start menu. This starts the Application Server which will continue to run until the user is logged off or the server is shut down. Note: if you are intending to copy the "Application Server Startup" shortcut to the Windows Startup folder to automatically launch when the user logs onto the Sage 100 server, on newer Windows Server versions, the Windows Start Menu Startup folder may not appear by default. You may need to Run a command such as "shell:startup" to see the startup folder or "shell:common startup" to see the common startup folder for all users. Please refer to Microsoft information for details on Startup folder. [BCB:155:Chat 100 US:ECB]
