| | How to Migrate Premier - SQL Server to SQL Server |
| Resolution | Note: The following assumes you're staying on the same version of Sage Fixed Asset Premier Server or upgrading to a newer one. You can restore company Backup files (.BBK) from 2013.0 and later into the latest version of the program. Step 1: Back up data in original version - In the original Sage Fixed Assets Premier Depreciation program, back up the database. Do this once for each database.
- Go to: File Company Utilities, Backup Company.
- Select a database from the pull-down menu. Click Select All.
- Select location to save the backup file: Specify a name for the backup file in the file name field. Sage suggests using the name of the database.
- Click Backup.
Step 2: Install the Sage Fixed Assets Premier server components to the new app server, or redirect existing components: - Before setting up the new databases, to redirect an existing Premier Server or Premier Depreciation to a new SQL server:
- Go to REGEDIT, Hkey_local_machine\Software\WOW6432node\Best Software\MSBESTSYS, change Enginename value to new SQL server.
- Setup empty System and Asset databases, go to: Start, Programs, Sage Fixed Assets, Tools, Database Utility Premier Depreciation & Tracking. Log in to the SQL server using SA or SQL Administrator equivalent user.
- Click Add and enter:
- Logical Database Name: the User-Friendly Name you assign.
- Data Source Name: N/A - Leave this as default – WINFAS32.
- Engine Name: N/A - Populates with the MS SQL Server name.
- Physical Database Name: The name of the database as you want it to exist on the MS SQL Server Machine. Click Next.
- If required: Enter the path where you want to save the database. Click Next.
- Verify all the information. Click Finish.
Step 3: Install Clients on the Workstations - The client install isn’t directly in the downloaded installation files. The server that you installed the server program on stores the client installation files. Browse to the server's BESTSERV, FASSERV or SFASERV\Premier Setup folder, run the Setup.exe file.
- Or redirect existing clients by going to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Best Software\MSBestsys, Change the Enginename to the name of the new SQL server.
Step 4: Restore Data - Go to: File, Company Utilities, Restore Company, click Yes.
- Browse to the location of the backup file (.bbk files created in Step 1). Highlight the backup file, click Next.
- Highlight the companies to restore. Click the Select All button or hold the key down while selecting multiple but not all companies. Click Next.
- Highlight the database (a new database will appear on this list) to restore the companies to, click Next.
- Restore - Purge History option:
- If you select Purge All Depreciation Events, the Restore process will run faster and won't go Not Responding.
- If you select Do not Purge or Purge Depreciation Events Prior to:, it can take up to an hour or more. The time depends on the number of assets and the amount of historical information per asset. During the process, Sage Fixed Assets may say Not Responding. To keep the Historical information on the asset, wait for the process to complete.
WARNING: Do NOT interfere with this process. Ending the task presents a high risk of corrupting the database. - Click Restore.
