What Control Accounts can I use in Job Cost?

Resolution

You can specify control account types in General Ledger as follows:

  1. Select: File, Company Settings, GL Settings.
  2. Click Processing Options, mark the Use Control Account Types check box, and click OK.
  3. Select: Setup,  Accounts.
  4. Enter an account, and mark the Control account check box.
  5. In the Control Account Settings section, specify the control account type and the warning message setting.

For more information about control accounts, refer to the various Control Account Help topics in General Ledger.

If you specified Control Account Types for your General Ledger accounts, then you are limited in the accounts you can use in Job Cost as follows:

GL Entry control accounts:  File, Company Settings, JC Settings click GL Entry:

  • Cost account: Use a JC Cost Control Acct

If you do not use the Accounts Receivable application, the following additional accounts are available in the Default accounts section:

  • Revenue: Use a Revenue Control Acct
  • AR: Use an AR Control Acct
  • Retainage: Use an AR Control Acct

Enter Direct Costs control accounts (Tasks, Enter Direct Costs):

  • JC Entries:
    • Debit Account: Use a JC Cost Control Acct
    • Credit Account: Use a non-control account
  • GL Only:
    • Debit Account: Use a non-control account
    • Credit Account: Use a non-control account

Job Setup control accounts (Setup, Jobs, AP and GL tab):

  • Cost of sales account: Use a JC Cost Control Acct.

If you do not use the Accounts Receivable application, the following additional account is available:

  • Revenue account: Use a Revenue Control Acct

Note: The following additional account is only available if your Retrieval method is set to by job or Use hierarchy in Job Cost settings (File, Company Settings, JC Settings, GL Entry):

  • Cost account: Use a JC Cost Control Acct

Cost Code Setup control accounts (Setup, Cost Codes, General tab):

Note: The following account is only available if your Retrieval method is set to by Cost Code or Use hierarchy in Job Cost settings (File, Company Settings, JC Settings, GL Entry):

  • Cost account: Use a JC Cost Control Acct.

Category Setup control accounts (Setup, Categories, General tab):

Note: The following account is only available if your Retrieval method is set to by category or Use hierarchy in Job Cost setting (File, Company Settings, JC Settings, GL Entry):

  • Cost account: Use a JC Cost Control Acct.
