What Control Accounts can I use in Cash Management?

Cause

You can specify control account types in General Ledger as follows:

  1. File, Company Settings, GL Settings.
  2. Click Processing Options. 
  3. Mark the Use Control Account Types check box.
  4. Click OK
  5. Select Setup, Accounts.
  6. Enter an account, and then mark the Control Account check box.
  7. In the Control Account Settings area, specify the Control Account Type and the Warning Message setting.
Resolution

If you specified control account types for your General Ledger accounts, then you become limited for the accounts you can use in Cash Management as follows:

In Cash Management select File, Company Settings, CM Settings, .  

  • GL Information tab:  For the Intercompany Payable use an Other Control Acct or a non-control account.
  • GL Information tab: For the  Intercompany Receivable use an Other Control Acct or a non-control account.
  • Bank Transfers tab: For the  Bank Transfer Clearing use a non-control account.

Note: You cannot use Control Accounts with Intercompany Bank Transfers.

Select a non-control account for the accounts above if you intend to enter Bank Transfers that use Intercompany Accounts.

Bank Account Setup Control Accounts (Setup,Bank Accounts,GL Cash Accounts tab):

  • General cash account: Use a Cash Control Acct or a non-control account.
  • Note: The following four accounts are only available if the Use separate cash accounts per application check box is available and marked:
  • Accounts Payable cash account: Use a Cash Control Acct or a non-control account.
  • Property Management cash account: Use a Cash Control Acct or a non-control account.
  • Payroll cash: Use a Cash Control Acct or a non-control account.
  • Receivables cash: Use a Cash Control Acct or a non-control account.

Edit Register control accounts (Tasks, Edit Register):
When you enter transactions in Edit Register, you specify a Debit and a Credit account based on the type of transaction, i.e. deposit, withdrawal, addition adjustment, or a subtraction adjustment. The control accounts you use for these different transactions are as follows:

Deposits:
GL Debit: Use a Cash Control Acct, or a non-control account.
GL Credit: Use an AR Control Acct, Revenue Control Acct, or a non-control account.

Withdrawals:
GL Debit: Any non-control account.
GL Credit: Use a Cash Control Acct, or a non-control account.

Subtraction Adjustment:
GL Debit: Use an AR Control Acct, Revenue Control Acct, Cash Control Acct, Other Control Acct, or a non-control account.
GL Credit: Use a Cash Control Acct, or a non-control account.

Addition Adjustment:
GL Debit: Use an AR Control Acct, Revenue Control Acct, Cash Control Acct, Other Control Acct, or a non-control account.
GL Credit: Use a Cash Control Acct, or a non-control account.

 Note: If you have problems entering Addition Adjustments with Control Accounts, enter a Deposit instead.
