| How do I restore my Payroll taxes after using the Download Taxes feature in Payroll? |
Resolution | [BCB:1:Backup warning:ECB]
This solution requires that Download Taxes was used to install the new taxes and that no errors occurred during the update to indicate that the backup was not made. Note: A similar restore may be done if a File Tools backup was made manually prior to downloading taxes. If File Tools was used, the locations and naming conventions will be different. Option A: For Temporary calculations or corrections using and old tax file: - Create a temporary folder on your server.
- Copy or Note the location of the new temporary folder (i.e. \\\Users\\Desktop\Tax 2015)
- Navigate to the location of where your backup taxes are stored.
Note:If there are multiple files ensure you are selecting the correct one. Date modified should match the date that the taxes were updated and will contain taxes from before that date/time. - Copy the backup file to the new temporary folder on your Desktop.
- In the new folder, double click the backup file to extract the files.
- Select Restore, in the Destination paste or enter the temporary path you created.
- Go to Payroll, Files, Company Settings, File Locations.
- Scroll down to the grid until you see the PR Tax box.
- Copy or note the location of your current tax file.
- Enter the location of your temporary tax file in the grid next to the PR Tax.
- Click OK to close and save. (If there is already an existing path in this location, copy and paste this to notepad as it will need to be put back in after you're finished.)
- Go to Set Up, Taxes, Tax Rates and confirm that the system is using the backup taxes instead of the current taxes. Confirm that the effective dates and rates on your taxes are for the current period.
- Once error correction is completed, go back to File, Company Settings, File Locations and clear out the PR Tax box or enter/paste the location of your original tax file you saved from step 9 back into the PR Tax box.
Important Note: If you skip this step you will be using the wrong tax rate going forward!
Option B: Restore taxes to live data for continuous use:
- Determine the location of your tax file.
- In Payroll, from the File menu, select Company Settings, File Locations.
- Scroll down to locate PR Tax.
- Make note of the path in the Data Folder column. If there is no file path the file is in your current data folder.
- Click Cancel to exit the File Locations window.
- Rename your tax file:
- Use File Tools to rename the Tax.prx file.
- Use File Tools to rename the Pr.frm file. This file is located in the Formula folder. For example, \\\Timberline Office\9.5\accounting\Formula\
