How do I set up an ODBC Pervasive DSN for Purchasing and Inventory data?

  1. Set up the Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface DSN. Follow the steps below at the file server.
    1. Log on to the file server as the local administrator.
    2. Note the IP address of the server. For more information on how to determine the IP address, see How do I find a server's IP address?
    3. From the Windows taskbar, click Start and then select Programs, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC).
    4. Click the System DSN tab and then click Add.
    5. Select Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface and then click Finish.
    6. Type a Data Source Name name. The Data Source Name can be any name that does not contain special characters unless otherwise specified in a knowledgebase solution or Sage Timberline Office documentation.
      Note: The first character cannot be a number.
    7. Click Create.
    8. Type the same name you selected in step 6 in the Database Name box.
    9. Click Browse and then find and select your POIVData folder.
      Note: This needs to be the actual drive (the local path) on the server where the POIVData or ACData folder is located. This cannot be a mapped network drive.
    10. Click OK twice and then click Test.
    11. A message Connection successful! appears. Click OK three times.
  2. If you have terminal servers that are connected to a separate server containing Sage Timberline Office data, follow the steps below at the terminal server to set up the Pervasive ODBC Client Interface DSN.
    1. From the Windows taskbar, click Start and then select Programs, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC).
    2. Click the System DSN tab and then click Add.
    3. Select Pervasive ODBC Client Interface and then click Finish.
    4. Type a Data Source Name name. The Data Source Name can be any name that does not contain special characters unless otherwise specified in a knowledgebase solution or Sage Timberline Office documentation.
      Note: The first character cannot be a number.
    5. In the Server Address box, type the IP Address for the server you logged on to in section A.
    6. Click Get DSN List and then select the DSN that you created in step A6.
    7. Click Test.
    8. A message Connection successful! appears. Click OK three times.
  3. Open up the Control Center by going to:
    • 16.1 to 24.1: Start, All Programs, Actian PSQL 12, PSQL Control Center & Documentation
    • 24.2 and later: Start, All Programs, Actian Zen 15, Zen Control Center & Documentation
  4. Expand Engines in the folders on the left and you should see your server name.
  5. Right click Database, select New then Database.
  6. Enter the name of your custom ODBC/DSN in the Database Name field.
  7. You can browse your network by clicking (…) button next to the Location field to select your POIVData folder under your company data folder or you can enter the path directly. For example \\ServerName\TIMBERLINE OFFICE\Data\Construction Sample Data\POIVData\
    Note: Notice above the Finish button you will see DSN Options section it has a box checked with Create 32-bit Engine DSN this will create an ODBC connection in the ODBC 32bit Administrator.
  8. Click Finish.
  9. You should now have your ODBC connection.
