| How do I migrate/move Sage 300 CRE products 9.4.x to a new server and upgrade to 9.6 or later? |
Description | When you migrate Sage 300 CRE Products to a new location, you move the Sage 300 CRE application and data folders.
Important Considerations - If you are prompted for activation codes during the install on the new server or host, do not continue the install. Contact Sage 300 CRE customer support to verify that you are not creating a new install.
- If the drive mapping to Accounting and Management Products on the server changes at the workstation, then the link to custom reports no longer works. To resolve the issue, update the path specified for your custom reports in Reports Manager from the Reports menu of the appropriate applications.
- If you have Estimating Products on the destination machine, you should remove them before beginning to install Accounting products. Estimating products may be reinstalled after Accounting products have been installed successfully.

- Move the application and data folders to the new server.
- Have all operators exit all Sage Timberline Office applications.
- Back up the Sage Timberline Office program folder and all company data. Confirm that the backup was successful before continuing.
- Create the following path on the new server:
- Windows Server 2008, Vista, or Windows 7 (9.7 or later only): X:\ProgramData\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5\Accounting (where X:\ is the drive to which you have installed the operating system) on the new server.
Note: ProgramData is a hidden folder and should not be created manually. You may need to show hidden files, folders, and drives in folder and search options in order to see X:\ProgramData. - Windows 2003 or XP: X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5\Accounting (where X:\ is the drive to which you have installed the operating system) on the new server.
Note: Application Data is a hidden folder and should not be created manually. You may need to show hidden files and folders in folder options in order to see X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data. - Copy the Sage Timberline Office Dict, Formula, Inquiry, Misc, Report, Screen, Security, and Template folders from your current server to the Accounting folder you created in step 3.
- Copy the Accounting folder from your old server (typically residing at X:\Program Files\Timberline Office\Accounting) to your new server. The default location for a 32-bit operating system is X:\Program Files\Timberline Office\Accounting. If this is a 64-bit operating system, the default location is X:\Program Files (x86)\Timberline Office\Accounting. However, depending on your system configuration, your company may have renamed this folder or choose to install to a different location. (Note: If no Accounting folder is found, the may be named TSGold from previous versions.) Make note of this location for use in step B-8.
- Copy all Sage Timberline Office company data to the new server.
The default data location for 9.6 is: - Windows Server 2008, Vista, or Windows 7 (9.7 and later only): X:\ProgramData\Sage\Timberline Office\Data.
- Windows Server 2003 or XP: X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\Data.
Note: - The data can be placed in a location of your choosing as long as the data location is shared and available to all Sage Timberline Office operators. To use Sage Timberline Office, operators must have full control of these folders.
- Manually create the following registry keys at the new server.
- Use the Microsoft Registry Editor to select the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software (for 32-bit servers) or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432node (for 64-bit servers).
- Right-click the Software key (32-bit) or Wow6432node key (64-bit) and select New, Key
- Type Timberline and press ENTER.
- Right-click the new Timberline subkey and select New, Key.
- Type General and press ENTER.

- Right-click General and select New, String Value.
- Type Shared Directory and press ENTER.
- Double-click Shared Directory and, in the Value data field, type the path to the Shared folder for Sage Timberline Office on the server. The default location is X:\Program Files\Timberline Office\Shared for 32-bit operating systems or X:\Program Files (x86)\Timberline Office\Shared for 64-bit operating systems.
- Right-click General and select New, String Value.
- Type Application Data Directory and press ENTER.
- Double-click Application Data Directory and, in the Value data field, type the path to the Application Data Directory folder for Sage Timberline Office on the server:
- Windows Server 2008, Vista, or Windows 7 (9.7 and later only): X:\ProgramData\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5
- Windows Server 2003 or XP: X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5
- Select the Timberline key again, right-click and select New, Key.
- Type OfficeInstalls and press ENTER.
- Right-click the OfficeInstalls key and select New, Key.
- Type Accounting and press Enter.
- Right-click the Accounting key and select New, StringValue.

- Double-click CurrentVersion and, in the Value data field, type the version your old server is currently using before the migration. For example, 9.4.1. Close the Microsoft Registry Editor.
- Install the Accounting and Management Products applications at the new server with the Accounting and Management Products CD or DVD.
- Install Accounting and Management Products at the new server with the installation disc.
- Verify that the installation automatically enters your registration name, client number, software country, number of uses, and activation codes.
Warning: If the installation prompts you for your registration name, client number, software country, number of uses, and activation codes, contact Customer Support for assistance. If you proceed with the installation, you will lose your customization. - Complete the installation as usual. For more information, see the Get Started guide. It is located on your installation disc under Documents, GetStarted.pdf.
- Share the Timberline Office folder on the new server:
- Windows 2008 , Vista, or Windows 7 (9.7 and later only): X:\ProgramData\Sage\Timberline Office.
- Windows 2003 or XP: X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office.
- Note: Beginning with the 9.7 installation the share is now created automatically at the Timberline Office folder on the server if one does not already exist. Read and write permission are automatically granted to the Everyone group. If the Timberline Office folder is already present and shared, the installation will skip this step. The system will not change any permissions you have already set up.
- When you add your data to the Company List you must use the UNC paths. For example: \\ServerName\Timberline Office\Path to Data. For more information, see Get Started. It is located on your installation disc under Documents, GetStarted.pdf.
- Set up the workstation:
- At each workstation, disconnect the network drive that points to the old server.
- Map a new drive to the share created for the Timberline Office folder on the new server (step C4).
- If the new drive mapping and drive letter are not identical to those that you used previously, update the Sage Timberline Office icons and shortcuts so that they point to the new network location for Accounting and Management Products.
- Run the workstation installation at each workstation by double-clicking on Install.exe under the 9.5\Accounting\Wininst folder.
- From the appropriate Sage Timberline Office applications, select Reports, Reports Manager to update the path for your custom reports.
- If necessary, select File, Company Folder Settings, File Locations to change the file locations for your data files.
- Print reports and select a Setup menu item from different applications to test the data folders.
- If you set up macros that point to the old location, set up those macro steps again.
