  • The Sage Estimating application is generally installed to workstations, or to Citrix/Terminal servers.
  • When opening the Sage Estimating program, by default it will list the location of the last Database used in the title bar.
  • The data generally is stored on a central file server where at the minimum the same version of Pervasive/Actian has to be installed.
  • Your company may have set things up differently, however. Consultant with your IT professional or with your Sage consultant, or use the following guidelines to search where your Sage Estimating data may reside.
  • Default location for the Database is: C:\Users\Public\Estimating, but often estimators choose a different location without removing the default files created during the installation.

Note: These files alone do not represent the entire data structure. The complete Pervasive/Actian data structure includes the files you search for (called gateway or pointer files) and a PVData folder that resides on the same level as the gateway file. Do not copy individual files using Windows Explorer or other utilities without their corresponding PVData folders. The only approved utility used to copy, move, rename or delete Pervasive/Actian files is Files Tools. See link below more information.

  1. Estimating users typically will know where they have saved their data. Check with these users prior to searching, deleting or modifying Estimating data.
  2. To find database files, search for pei.dat. Any folder with this file in it contains a database. The database is actually made up of about half a dozen *.dat extension files. If you find more than one pei.dat, you have to determine which is the current database. Some Estimators use multiple databases.
  3. To find Address Book files, with your Estimating database open, check the location for Company Folder in Database, Database Settings or search for master.abm
  4. To find estimate files, search for *.pee file extensions. Any folder with this file in it contains an estimate. You have to determine which folder contains your current estimates.
  5. To find the Options file, search for *.opt file extensions. This file is by default on the C: drive of the computer that has Sage Estimating installed, but could have been moved elsewhere.
  6. To find Buyout databases, search for bos.dat.
  7. To find Buyout workfiles, search for *.bow file extensions.

You may find files contained within folders named PEBackup. These folders are automatically created by our software when data is upgraded. You may delete these PEBackup folders if all the following are true:

  1. You have nightly backups and the backup type are considered full backups, and not incremental or differential backups.
  2. Your nightly backups have been tested to work when restored.
  3. Your estimators did NOT start saving data erroneously into these PEBackup folders or started using them in any way. You will need to check with your estimators and look at the modified file dates to confirm.
  4. You are 100% sure these folders do not contain any live or recent data.
    • Note: A safer method of removing these files would be to backup to a flash drive or other removable media before deleting.
