Can I reopen a closed period in Job Cost or Contracts?
Description

Resolution

There is no way to set the month back in Job Cost or Contracts.

Job Cost or Contracts has no limit on how many periods into the past you can post. If you post to the prior month or prior period, the Last month and Last period fields in the master file update. If you post to a period in the current year, the Year to date fields update. Any prior period date updates the Job to date fields.

Restoring the entire data folder from a backup created before you ran the close month task can correct the month, but you would then need to recreate any tasks performed after the creation of the backup in any Sage 300 application. When you accidentally close too many periods, your last month and possibly the last quarter totals may not correctly reflect those past months. The Job to date totals and Contract to date totals will still be correct.

As a workaround, you can print any Job Cost reports with an (as of date) in the report name, or any report which uses the transaction files as a primary record on the report. You can use conditions to focus on specific transaction or accounting dates.

The period in Job Cost and Contracts doesn't affect filing Year-End Tax Forms in Payroll.
