Understand payroll data file options

Use Multiple Payroll Data Files when multiple companies share the same Federal EIN and you need to combine forms such as:

  • Form 941
  • Form 940
  • State tax forms
  • 1099 forms

You can switch between Single and Multiple Payroll Data Files at any time.

Switch from multiple to single payroll data files

  1. Open the Multiple Payroll Data Files screen in Enhanced Tax Reporting.
  2. Click SINGLE.
  3. Enhanced Tax Reporting returns to using separate payroll data files for each company.

Switch from single to multiple payroll data files

  1. Open any form in Enhanced Tax Reporting.
  2. Select Edit, Company Setup.
  3. Select Use Multiple Payroll Data Files.
  4. If prompted to use Work in Progress, select No so the default settings update correctly.

Verify setup

Open the desired payroll tax form and confirm Enhanced Tax Reporting uses the expected payroll data file configuration.
