A negative number in the credit column means the entry is a credit in the reports and inquiries below:
- Current Ledger Report*
- Year-To-Date Ledger Report*
- Account Inquiry - Entry Information screen
- Entries Inquiry - Entry Information screen
- Entries by Batch Inquiry - Entry Info screen
* NOTE: The credit balance on the ledger can be changed in General Ledger Setting, Ledger settings, Activity, with the Print Credits options.
A positive number in the credit column means the entry is a credit in the reports that follow:
- Entries By Account Report
- Entries By Batch Report
- Totals By Batch Report
The reports and inquiries that follow have only one column for activity. Since this column reflects net activity, a positive number is a debit and a negative number is a credit:
- Trial Balance Report
- Working Trial Balance Report
- Budget Report
- Account Inquiry - Account Information screen
- Budget Inquiry
Note: Because signage is consistent among Inquiries, if you are unsure about a Report, run an Inquiry for the same account to compare the signage. Reports used to reconcile to General Ledger from other applications such as Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable may show debit and credit amounts as positive amount, but due to the type of transaction may appear as a negative on some of the inquiries and reports above in GL.
Financial Statements print balances as normal (positive) and abnormal (negative).
The following account types print debit balances as normal:
- Current assets
- Noncurrent assets
- Cost
- Expense
The following account types print credit balances as normal:
- Current liabilities
- Noncurrent liabilities
- Equity
- Retained earnings
- Income
