How to add a year:
- Open General Ledger, Maintenance, GL Setup, Set Up Fiscal Calendar
- Check to see if the year is existing by using the drop down in the Fiscal Year field
- If the year does not exist click Add Year...
- The next year will default in, click OK
- Click Yes to the message "Beginning balances for the new Fiscal Year and ID will be calculated. Do you wish to proceed?"
Note: The ID field is available if you select Allow Multiple Fiscal Years per Calendar Year in Set Up GL Options. This field is used when creating a multiple year within a single fiscal year, such as for a short tax year.
How to delete a year:
- Select the Fiscal Year from the drop down menu
- Click Delete Year
- You may only delete a year where no General Ledger Account History exists
How to add/delete a period:
- Select the Fiscal Year from the drop down menu that needs to be modified
- Click Add Period or Delete Period
- The new period or old period will be modified at the end of the fiscal year
How to modify period dates:
- You may only modify the End Date column.
- The Start Date column of the following period will always default as the following day of the End Date in the previous period.
Tip: If you need to modify the dates from a period that is early in the year, it is easier to delete all the periods after the affected period and then adjust the end date. Once the correct end date is in, click Add Period to quickly fill the year.
How to change Status to Open or Closed:
All accounting periods are initially set to open status. The status may be changed from closed to open in order to make adjusting journals to a closed period. An open period may not be closed manually, only the Period End Processing may close a period. When a period is opened, the fiscal year is also set to open status. The fiscal year may only be closed by performing the year end closing using the Period End Processing
