In General Ledger, File, Company Settings, Processing Options, there is a checkbox for Allow Entry to Closed Period. Having this checkbox selected in the GL settings allows entries in GL, as well as all applications that interface with GL, to be created regardless of the accounting date being for a closed period. This does not allow the entries to post in GL, but allows the entries to be created and sent to GL.
With the checkbox selected, if an attempt is made to create an entry with an accounting date to a closed period, a warning will be generated indicating that the selected date is for a closed GL period, but you can continue past the warning and create the entry. With the checkbox unselected, using the same previous scenario, an error will display stating the date is for a closed GL period, and you cannot continue without changing the date.
As previously stated, this option only allows the entries to be created and sent to GL, but will not post in GL unless the period is open. If the period is not open, the transaction will be created and sent to the GL new file and the transaction must be manually posted once the period has been opened.
Note: In some areas of the program, checking this box will still not allow entries to a closed period. For example, with this box checked, Accounts Receivables, Adjust Receivables task will only allow entries to closed periods than can be opened in General Ledger, Open/Close Posting periods for past entries, and will only allow entries one year to the future.
