How to create a new company
Description
If you are the only user of 100 Contractor, then your computer is likely the server.
Cause

Resolution
To create a new company, an Administrator follows these steps on the server:

  1. Open Database Administration. Find this icon on the server’s desktop, or in the Windows program list in the section Sage 100 Contractor SQL.
  2. Choose Add/Delete Companies.
  3. Choose Create Company or Create Company Based on Existing. If you are not sure which to choose, see What is the difference between creating a new company and creating a new company from an existing one?
  4. Depending on what you chose:
    • Enter a name for the new company, then select a company administrator from the drop-down list
    • Choose an existing company as the “source” for the new company, and then choose a name for the new company
  5. Sage 100 Contractor requires you to choose a schedule for the new company’s nightly maintenance.
    Note: For now, you can accept the defaults and change them later using Tune Up / Back Up / Restore.
  6. Choose Create Company.
  7. The Administrator can now go to 7-2-2 Utilities - Company Security - User List to add all the users who need to access this company.

This initial Company Administrator (and the users they added in step 6, above) are the only people who can see this new company in the company list. To add additional Administrators for this company:

  1. Choose Company Admins/SQL Logins.
  2. Choose Add Company Administrator.
  3. From the drop-down lists, choose the name of a company and then the name of the person to add as an additional administrator for it.
  4. Click Create Admin User.

If your drop-down list does not contain the person you are looking for, add their name using these steps:

  1. Open Add SQL Server Login:
  2. For Authentication, choose the type of login the person uses. For more information, see When connecting in Sage 100 Contractor version 20 and later, what is the difference between Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication?
  3. Enter their user name and password.
  4. Click Add as member of the ‘sysadmin’ server role.
  5. Choose Create SQL Login.

This person you added will appear in the list of potential administrators.
