Ask Name is selected for the file type in File Locations (File, Company Settings, File Locations)
When Ask Name (or named files) is selected for a file type that is missing its gateway file, File Doctor attempts to recreate the missing gateway file but it is building the file path by copying the company data folder path twice incorrectly.
For example, if the company data folder is \\server\PROGRAMDATA\SAGE\TIMBERLINE OFFICE\DATA\COMPANY DATA\, it will attempt to create the file to an incorrect location of \\server\PROGRAMDATA\SAGE\TIMBERLINE OFFICE\DATA\COMPANY DATA\\\server\PROGRAMDATA\SAGE\TIMBERLINE OFFICE\DATA\COMPANY DATA\.
Once it creates the missing gateway file to this location, it then detects that there is no related data files in that location, so then it deletes the gateway file it had just created.
The end result is that the related data file folder inside the PVData folder still has no gateway file.
Additional Information
Most of these cases are happening on GL Recur files (.glr), PR new files (.prt), and AP new files (.api) where named files are most commonly used, though it can happen with any file type that has Ask Name selected.
Users are likely attempting to delete the file when they are no longer using the file, but they are deleting the gateway file only. This will happen if it is deleted through Windows Explorer/File Explorer or within a browsing window instead of using File Tools to delete it. They are most likely doing this in the browsing window where they are prompted to select the file or enter the file name they want to use for the task.
