Creating a variable

  1. Open the Database Variable window in one of the following ways:
    • On the ribbon, from the Calculations group on the Data tab, click Variables.
    • In classic view, click Database menu > Formulas > Variables.
  2. Click [Add] to open the Adding Database Variable window.

Tip: You can also add variables "on the fly" from the Variable List when you open it from the Formula Tables or Item Tables window.

    • Click to open the Variable List window.
    • Click [Create Variable].
  1. Complete the fields. You can use [Copy] and [Prefill] for this purpose. At a minimum, you need to enter a descriptive name (up to 70 characters) for the variable in the Variable field.

The remaining fields are optional—you can complete some or all of them if you want.

For more information, click image\windhlp.gifon the title bar of the window, and then click a field or button.

  1. When you finish setting up the variable, click [OK] to save it.
  2. Set up additional variables in the same manner. When you finish, click [Close].
