How to change a tag field
Description
Cause

In order to preform an Inventory, you must choose a Tag field. By default, the Asset ID field is the Tag field. The Tag field is the field translated into the barcode symbology appearing on the asset’s barcode label. The Tag field must contain a unique value for each asset. We recommend using the Asset ID field as the Tag field. This field should always contain a unique value and cannot not be blank.

When setting up an Inventory for the first time in a company with existing assets but the barcodes have not been assigned, changing the Tag Field to the System number will allow you to setup an Inventory. Ensure to including a field in the Inventory to scan existing barcode values.

The value in the Barcode field cannot be changed during the Inventory process.

Resolution
In Sage Fixed Assets - Tracking, go to:

  1. Customize, Customize Fields, select the field to be set to the Tag field.
  2. Click Make Tag Field on the left, click Ok.
  3. Create a new inventory.

Note: Once the Reader is Prepared, in the Barcode reader program: The selected field from step 1 should now appear as the first field on the Inventory.
