What can I do if I download and update taxes too soon?
Description

Resolution

Follow the steps in Option A if you used Download Taxes to install the tax update. Follow the steps in Option B if you downloaded taxes from an email or Sage web site.

Option A

This solution requires that Download Taxes was used to install the new taxes and that no errors occurred during the update to indicate that the backup was not made.

Note: A similar restore may be done if a File Tools backup was made manually prior to downloading taxes. If File Tools was used, the locations and naming conventions will be different.

  1. Determine the location of your tax file.
    1. Go to PayrollFileCompany SettingsFile Locations.
    2. Scroll down to locate PR Tax.
    3. Make note of the path in the Data Folder column. If there is no path name, the file is in your current data folder.
    4. Click OK to exit the File Locations window.
  2. Use File Tools to rename the Tax.prx file.
  3. Use File Tools to rename the Pr.frm file. This file is located in the Formula folder. For example, X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5\Accounting\Formula, where X is your network drive.
  4. Use File Tools to restore the Pr.frm file from the backup to the Formula folder.
  5. Use File Tools to restore Tax.prx file from the backup created by Download Taxes to the current location of your taxes. Select the link below for details.
    Tips:
    • If you created a manual backup with File Tools, browse to and restore from that backup.
    • All tax files that Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate backs up when you use Download Taxes appear in the Backup_tax folder.
    • The file format is Backup_tax_123003_115013.tszip where 123003 is the date of the backup (12-30-03) and 115013 is the time (11:50 and 13 seconds). Select the appropriate backup.
  6. Verify the correct taxes were restored.
    1. Go to PayrollSetupTaxesTax Rates.
    2. Confirm that the effective dates and rates on your taxes are for the current period. For example, review the date in the Effective box on the federal withholding tax FWH.
    3. Click Cancel and then click Close.

Option B

If you install payroll taxes from an e-mail or Sage Timberline Office Web site, restore the tax files from a recent backup that was made before you installed taxes.

  1. Determine the location of the Tax.prx file.
  4. Use File Tools to restore the Tax.prx from the backup to the location you determined in step 1.
  5. Use File Tools to restore the Pr.frm file from the backup to the Formula folder.
