| How do I set up an ODBC Pervasive DSN for Service Management data? |
Resolution | [BCB:3:Network warning:ECB]
- At the file server verify dictionary files for Service Management data.
Note: Initially skip this step unless you encounter issues that lead you to believe there may be a problem with the DDF files. Move to step 2. - Have all operators exit all applications and tasks that use Service Management data.
- Make a backup of all Service Management *.ddf files in your SMData folder (located in your data folder).
- Use Windows Explorer to browse to your Servmngt folder. For example, X:\Timberline Office\Accounting\Servmngt, where X is the network drive.
- Note the Date Modified on the Field.ddf, File.ddf, and Index.ddf files.
- Use Windows Explorer to browse to the SMData folder.
- Note the Date Modified on the Field.ddf, File.ddf, and Index.ddf files. If the Date Modified matches for the files in step 1.d and step 1.f, no further action is necessary. If the Date Modified does not match for the files in step 1.d and step 1.f, continue with the next step.
- In the SMData folder, use Windows Explorer to rename the Field.ddf, File.ddf, and Index.ddf files.
- Use Windows Explorer to browse to your Servmngt folder. For example, X:\Timberline Office\Accounting\Servmngt, where X is the network drive.
- Copy the Field.ddf, File.ddf, and Index.ddf files to the SMData data folder.
- If a message appears to ask if you want to replace an existing file, click No. Repeat steps 1.g through 1.i.
- Set up the Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface DSN. Follow the steps below at the file server.
- Log on to the file server as the local administrator.
- Note the IP address of the server. For more information on how to determine the IP address, select the link below.
- From the Windows taskbar, click Start and then select Programs, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC).
- Click the System DSN tab and then click Add.
- Select Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface and then click Finish.
- Type a Data Source Name name. The Data Source Name can be any name that does not contain special characters unless otherwise specified in a knowledgebase solution or Sage Timberline Office documentation.
Note: The first character cannot be a number. - Click Create.
- Type the same name you selected in step 6 in the Database Name box.
- Click Browse and then find and select your SMData folder.
Note: This needs to be the actual drive on the server where the SMData folder is located. This cannot be a mapped network drive. - Click OK twice and then click Test.
- A message, "Connection successful!" appears. Click OK three times.
- If you have terminal servers that are connected to a separate server containing Sage Timberline Office data, follow the steps below at the terminal server to set up the Pervasive ODBC Client Interface DSN.
- From the Windows taskbar, click [Start] and then select Programs, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC).
- Click the System DSN tab and then click Add.
- Select Pervasive ODBC Client Interface and then click Finish.
- Type a Data Source Name name. The Data Source Name can be any name that does not contain special characters unless otherwise specified in a knowledgebase solution or Sage Timberline Office documentation.
Note: The first character cannot be a number. - In the Server Address box, type the IP Address for the server you logged on to in step 1.
- Click Get DSN List and then select the DSN that you created in step 1.f.
- Click Test.
- A message, "Connection successful!" appears. Click OK three times.
- Set up the Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface DSN on your workstations for Service Management as follows:
- When you launch SM on the workstation the SM data source is automatically created.
- To verify the DSN, go to Start, Programs or All Programs, ODBC, 32Bit ODBC Administrator, User DSN tab and look for the Timberline SM Data.
- If Timberline SM Data still does not appear in the ODBC Data Source Administrator window, launch SM on the workstation and then go into Report, Work Orders, Work Orders in Progress to create the Timberline SM Data listing.
- To verify the DSN, go to Start, Programs or All Programs, ODBC, 32Bit ODBC Administrator, User DSN tab and look for the Timberline SM Data.
