Premier Error: “The System cannot connect to this database”
Description

Error occurring after the SQL server has been moved to a different location and renamed:

  • Unable to Connect
  • The System cannot connect to this database. Please contact your database administrator
Cause

The SQL server has been moved and the name has changed but the Engine Name has not been updated in the Database Utility.

Resolution

On the server with the Sage Fixed Assets Premier Server is installed, run the Database Utility - Premier Depreciation & Tracking as Administrator and log in with a SA or SA equivalent SQL user account.

You can either:

Remove/Add the databases one at a time:

Note the Logical and Physical database names for each database as you go.

  1. Highlight a database on the list and click Remove.
  2. Click Add, and enter:
    • Logical Database Name: the User-Friendly Name you assign
    • Data Source Name: Leave this as default – WINFAS32
    • Engine Name: The new MS SQL Server name
    • Physical Database Name: The name of the database as it exists on the MS SQL Server

Or:

  • Highlight a database on the list and click Configure (if prompted for the SA login again, click Cancel) and edit the Engine name, click Next, then click Yes to overwrite

  • At this point for both processes, a dialog should appear that displays the information provided and a partial path to where the database is located. If this is the case, click Finish
  • Repeat for all the databases listed
