How to create a budget

Making a new budget, or creating budgets based on existing budgets or amounts in Sage 50 Accounting.

Resolution

You can create a new budget from scratch, using amounts from Sage 50 Accounting, or basing it on an existing budget.

Creating a new budget

  1. Select Maintain and then Budgets.
  2. Select the New button.
  3. Enter a Budget Name and Description.
  4. Check Start with a blank budget.
  5. Select Finish.
  6. Use the Account Filters to determine the accounts that display for your budget.
    • You can filter by account segment or department mask.
    • You can view and enter data for four fiscal years. (The two open years and the years before and after.)
  7. Enter your budget information, then select Save, then Close.

Creating a budget using amounts from Sage 50 Accounts

  1. Select Maintain and then Budgets.
  2. Select the New button from the Maintain Budgets window.
  3. Enter a Budget Name and Description for the new budget.
  4. Select Use actual amounts from Sage 50.
  5. SelectNext.
  6. Select the previous accounting periods to use to build the new budget.
  7. Select the starting period for the new budget (the system calculates the end period automatically).
  8. SelectFinish.
  9. Review the budget data and make any changes.
  10. SelectSave, then Close when done.

Creating a new budget based on an existing budget

  1. Select Maintain and then Budgets.
  2. Select the New button from the Maintain Budgets window.
  3. Enter a Budget Name for the new budget.
  4. Select Copy amounts from another Sage 50 budget, thenNext.
  5. Select the existing budget you want to copy from.
  6. Select the accounting periods to copy from and the periods to paste into.
  7. SelectFinish.
  8. Review the budget data and make any changes.
  9. Select Save, then Close when done.
