Error: "Problem initializing the Year-End Wizard"

Summary

The message "Problem initializing the Year-End Wizard" displays when trying to run the Year-End Wizard in Sage 50 Accounting.

1. Rename expendable files

  1. Select Maintain Company Information.
  2. Make note of the Directory, and then close Sage 50 — U.S. Edition.
  3. Using Windows Explorer, browse to your company directory noted in step 2.
  4. Rename the following files.
    • EVNTCLS.DAT - rename to OldEVNTCLS.DAT
    • JRNCLS.DAT - rename to OldJRNCLS.DAT
    • ALARM.DAT - rename to OldALARM.DAT
    • ALERT.DAT - rename to OldALERT.DAT
    • EVENTLOG.DAT - rename to OldEVENTLOG.DAT
    • AUDITTR.DAT - rename to OldAUDITTR.DAT
  5. Open Sage 50 and open your company.
  6. Click Yes to create a new empty file for ALARM.DAT, ALERT.DAT, EVENTLOG.DAT, and AUDITTR.DAT.
  7. Try to close your year. If the close is unsuccessful, continue with the next section.

2. Data verification

  1. Run Data Verification on your company. See How do I load, access, and run Data Verification?
  2. Try closing the year again. If the year-end close is unsuccessful, continue with the next section.
