Description

Cause

Windows 11 is not compatible with hosting Microsoft SQL server 2014. SQL 2014 instance sitting on a Windows 11 host will not start. Microsoft does not currently have a plan to resolve and their suggestion action is to install SQL 2019.

Resolution

Best Practice:

  1. On your Windows 10 or Server 2019 or earlier, backup all your databases using the Estimating Management Console.
  2. On your Window 11 or Server 2019 or greater install an instance of SQL 2017 or greater of SQL Express and restore using the Estimating Management Console.
