To help save valuable data entry time, customers can set up product line to serve as a template for entering part information. You can then edit the default entries as needed.
Sage BusinessWorks provides two means, product lines, and model parts, by which default information can be added to all new parts being imported. Because the defaults for product lines override the defaults for the model part, use one or the other, but not both
- If a product line is included in the import record the items below are taken from the product line listed in the import:
- Inventory item status
- Unit of measure
- Fractional Quantity
- Backorders allowed
- Pricing Method
- Taxable status
- UPS shippable
- If looking to define other settings such as fractional cost/price, see How to add parts with model part information
- To import parts using product lines:
- Define product line (IC, Utilities, Maintain Product Lines). Define product lines prior to importing and then include a product line ID in each part’s import record. For further instructions, see How to set up Inventory Control posting accounts and product lines
- On the import file make sure each part has a product line assigned, if a product line is not defined the part will be assigned to the Standard product line.
- Import the part using IC, Transfer, Import Part Information. For further instructions on importing parts, see How to import inventory parts.
