Create and use custom fields

Summary

Sage Timeslips lets users create custom fields to track more clients, timekeeper, task, or expense information. These custom fields support filtering and sorting on reports and bills in Sage Timeslips.

Resolution

Create custom fields

  1. Select Setup, Custom Fields.
  2. Choose the category, such as Client, Timekeeper, or Activity.
  3. Click inside the Group box where the field belongs.
  4. Click New.
  5. Select the custom field type:
    • Date: Tracks inception dates or contact dates.
    • Hours: Tracks minimum hours or other time values.
    • List: Defines a selectable list item.
    • Money: Tracks monetary values without AR or Funds impact.
    • Number: Stores numeric values.
    • Percent: Stores percentage values.
    • Text: Stores names, case numbers, or other text values.
    • Timekeeper: Assigns an originating or responsible attorney.
  6. Enter the field name, and click OK.
  7. Define field attributes.
  8. Select This is a required field if entry is mandatory before saving.
  9. Click OK to close the Attributes window.
  10. Click OK to close the Custom Field window.

Enter data into custom fields

  1. Select Names, Client Info, Timekeeper Info, Task Info, or Expense Info.
  2. Double‑click the record you want to update.
  3. Click the Custom tab.
  4. Enter the required data.
  5. Save the record.

Use custom fields as filters

  1. Open the report.
  2. Select the category from the Filter Groups dropdown list.
  3. Double‑click the custom field.
  4. Enter or select the filter criteria.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Print or display the report.

Use custom fields as sorts

  1. Open the report.
  2. Click the Sort tab.
  3. Select the category from the Sort Groups dropdown list.
  4. Double‑click the custom field.
    • Choose the Ascending or Descending order.
  5. Print or display the report.
