Program is slow to open

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage Timeslips can freeze or show Not Responding during startup due to Outlook integration, printer redirection, or multiple running instances. Disabling the Outlook link or resetting the preferences file resolves most cases.

Cause

Startup delays occur when Sage Timeslips can’t complete the required background connections.

  • The configuration of Outlook isn’t correct or responds slowly.
  • A linked accounting program doesn’t respond.
  • Multiple Timeslips instances start at the same time.
  • A redirected default printer delays initialization.

Resolution

Stop Outlook from blocking startup

Sage Timeslips attempts to connect to Outlook during startup, which can delay entry.

  1. Open Windows Task Manager.
  2. Select the Processes tab.
  3. End every instance of Timeslips.exe or *Timeslips.exe 32.
  4. Select Outlook.exe, then choose End process.

    NOTE:

Sage Timeslips retries the Outlook connection up to three times. Continue closing Outlook.exe if it reappears.

  5. Open Sage Timeslips.
  6. Select Setup, Performance Settings.
  7. Uncheck the Outlook Link.
  8. Close Sage Timeslips.
  9. Restart Sage Timeslips.

The program opens normally after disabling the Outlook link.

Reset the preferences file

If the issue continues, reset the preferences file.

  1. Close Sage Timeslips before continuing.
  2. If it won’t close, press Ctrl, Shift, Esc to open Task Manager.
  3. Select the Details tab.
  4. Highlight Timeslips.exe, then click End task.
  5. Right-click the Timeslips desktop icon.
  6. Select Open file location.
  7. Locate PREFS.XML.
  8. Right-click the file, then select Rename.
  9. Rename it to PREFS.OLD.
  10. Right-click the Timeslips icon, then select Run as administrator.
  11. Select OK when the Preference File Error message appears.

Sage Timeslips creates a new preferences file and completes startup.
