Resolution

The error "Unable to connect to Payroll system. Invalid payroll database ID in Payroll Database Setup" appears due to an unsupported ODBC DSN driver. Version 10 of HRMS only supports the Native Client and Native Client 11 drivers. Any workstations using the old "SQL Server" driver for their DSNs will receive the error when connecting to the SQL PR database.

Follow the steps below to create a new connection to the SQL Native Client in the ODBC Data Source Administrator.

Note: If the "Native Client 11.0" is missing from the available data sources list, the customer will have to download it from Microsoft.

  1. Log in to the workstation that’s having an issue
  2. Launch the Data Sources (ODBC) found in the Administrative Tools
  3. Select the System DSN tab
  4. Select Add and enter the following:

  • Data Source: SQL Server Native Client 11.0.
  • Name: servername32 (example: Server name is Sage enter Sage32).
  • Server: servername (example: Server name is Sage enter Sage).
  • Click Next.
  • Select the option 'With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user'.
  • Login ID: SA.
  • Password: enter the password for the SA login.
  • Select Next.
  • Select Next again.
  • Select Next again.
  • Select Finish.
  • Select Test Data Source.
  • The system displays a message stating that the tests complete successfully.
  • Select OK.
  • Select OK again.

In the ODBC Data Source Administrator, you see a listing named servername32 that uses the SQL Native Client 11.0 driver.

Launch and login to HRMS.
