How to show file extensions and hidden files, folders, and drives

Resolution

Section I: Windows 7/Vista

  1. Click the Start button, Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, and then Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Under Advanced settings, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
  4. Click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.

Section II: Windows 8

  1. Click Control Panel, Folder Options, Show hidden files and folders.
  2. Then click the View tab at the top of the window.
  3. Under Advanced settings, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
  4. Locate "Hidden files and folders." Select Show hidden files and folders just below that.

Section III: Windows 10

  1. Click Control Panel, File Explorer Options, Show hidden files and folders.
  2. Then click the View tab at the top of the window.
  3. Under Advanced settings, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
  4. Locate "Hidden files and folders." Select Show hidden files and folders just below that.
