Generate Work-In-Progress (WIP)
Use Generate WIP when WIP entries are still rejecting in the New.blt (To view entries in the New.blt, from the Inquiry menu, select Transactions).
Information about the Generate WIP task:
- The Generate WIP command applies rates and markup calculations to cost transactions received from Accounts Payable, Equipment Cost, Job Cost, and Payroll for billing purposes. WIP records created for cost-based billings are stored in the Unbilled.blw file.
- When transactions cannot be processed into WIP records, they are included on the Reject journal. These rejected transactions remain in the New.blt file for future processing, while all processed transactions are removed.
- Make corrections to the contract item, rate table, or markup table for the rejected entries before rerunning the Generate Work-In-Progress command to process the rejected records.
Regenerate Work-In-Progress (WIP)
Use Regenerate WIP when you have already generated WIP and you have changed a rate table or markup table on a contract item or contract link. For example, if WIP entries have been successfully generated and are no longer in the New.blt (To view WIP entries, from the Tasks menu, select Work-In-Progress > Change) but you changed the WIP entry's rate or markup table, use Regenerate WIP.
Information about the Regenerate WIP task:
- The Regenerate WIP command recalculates and revises existing WIP entries.
- Regenerate WIP retrieves the new changes from the rate and markup tables and recalculates the billed amount.
- New WIP entries that you manually add using the Change Work-In-Progress command cannot be regenerated.
- WIP entries that cannot be regenerated are assigned a status of Rejected and are listed on the Regenerate Work-In-Progress journal.
- The only items recalculated during Regenerate Work-In-Progress are Work-In-Progress Unit Price, Work-In-Progress Units (if Billed Units changed), Work-In-Progress Amount, Billed Unit Price, and Billed Amount.
- Regenerate Work-In-Progress does not reprocess contract-based billing entries.
Note: Refer to the Billing Help topics, About generating Work-In-Progress records and About Regenerating Work-In-Progress for a more detailed overview.
