Restore missing or unresponsive windows

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage Timeslips windows can open off-screen or fail to display due to corrupted window positions or preferences. Resetting window layouts or rebuilding the preferences file restores normal display and reporting behavior.

Description

You select menu options such as Bills, Reprint Bills..., Reports, or Slip List, but the window doesn’t appear. Timeslips can freeze, flash briefly, or fail to print to display.

Resolution

Reposition hidden windows using Cascade

Start with this option to bring off-screen windows back into view.

  • Click Window, Cascade.

Hidden or misplaced windows reposition into the visible screen area.

Reset the Reprint Bills dialog settings

If the Reprint Bills window still doesn’t appear or locks up, reset its dialog settings.

  1. Click Setup, Preferences.
  2. Click Appearance.
  3. Under Dialog Settings, click Advanced.
  4. Mark Reprint Bills.
  5. Click OK.
  6. When prompted, select Yes to reset windows and dialog boxes.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Verify you can now reprint bills to display.

Rename the preferences file

If resetting dialog settings doesn’t resolve the issue, rebuild the preferences file.

  1. Close Sage Timeslips.
  2. Browse to the preferences file location, typically: C:\Program Files (x86)\Timeslips\PREFS.XML.
  3. Rename PREFS.XML to another name.
  4. Reopen Sage Timeslips.

Timeslips creates a new default preferences file when it starts.

NOTE:

You can confirm the exact preferences file location by opening Setup, Preferences and checking the window title bar.
