Set Up ODBC Security for Users, Companies, Tables, and Fields

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Use ODBC security in Sage 100 ERP to control access to tables and fields through the ODBC driver. This feature helps protect sensitive data and limits access based on assigned permissions.

About ODBC security

Use the ODBC Security tab in Role Maintenance to assign permission levels to data tables and fields.
ODBC security restricts the data that users retrieve through the ODBC driver. If a user's permission level doesn't match the assigned level, or falls below it, the ODBC driver returns null values.
Because this feature requires detailed knowledge of data files, restrict access to authorized personnel only. Assign security roles that prevent unauthorized users from accessing ODBC security settings.

Enable ODBC security

For Sage 100 ERP 2013 and later, complete the following steps:
  1. Open Library Master, Setup, System Configuration, Security Tab.
  2. Select Enable ODBC Security within Role Maintenance.
  3. Click Accept.
  4. Open Library Master, Main, Role Maintenance.
  5. Create a new role.
  6. For testing, select all options on every tab, including the ODBC Security Tab.
  7. Click Accept.
  8. Open Library Master, Main, User Maintenance.
  9. Create a user name and password. Do not leave the password field blank.
  10. Assign the user access to the company code using the role you created.
  11. Click Accept.
  12. Open Library Master, Main, Company Maintenance.
  13. Select the Preferences tab.
  14. Verify that Allow External Access is selected.
  15. Click Accept.

Assign table and field permissions

After you enable ODBC security, use the ODBC Security Tab in Role Maintenance to assign permissions to specific tables and fields.
Users can retrieve data only when their assigned permissions meet or exceed the required security level.
