Why did the state withholding tax not calculate in Payroll? (tax not on tax group)

Description

When troubleshooting this issue, verify that the correct work state has been entered on the employee record or the Job record. Verify the correct state appears on the Time Record.

Verify that there are no Reciprocity agreements setup. (Globally or on the employee tax record).

Next verify that the Tax Group has the correct taxes.

Cause

The tax is missing from the Tax Group for that state OR the incorrect tax was added to the State Tax Group.

Resolution

  1. Go to Setup, Taxes, Tax Groups.
  2. Select State for the Tax Level.
  3. Enter the two letter state abbreviation or select List and pick it from the list in Tax Group.
  4. Add the tax in the Tax ID box, or remove the incorrect Tax added to the Tax Group.
  5. Click Accept.
  6. Click Close.
