Sage Timeslips cloud and remote access options explained

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage Timeslips runs in networked environments with local data storage, not native cloud hosting, or SaaS delivery. Remote access works through supported tools, hosted desktops, or Sage Timeslips Go synchronization.

Resolution

Cloud definition context

The term "Cloud" has multiple technology definitions, with broad variables and configurations across hosting, access, storage, and connectivity environments.

Sage Timeslips architecture

Sage Timeslips Premium runs on a local network using physically attached storage on a file server or standalone computer. Data stays local, and Sage never hosts or views it.

Supported remote access approaches

You can access Sage Timeslips using a hosted environment with remote connectivity over the Internet, but Sage doesn’t support these configurations.

  • Use Remote Desktop Services, formerly Terminal Services, to provide remote access to a shared environment.
  • Use paid remote access tools like GoToMyPC, WebEx, TeamViewer, or Google Remote Desktop for Chrome.

Unsupported configurations

Sage Timeslips doesn’t support off-site or cloud database hosting due to performance and configuration risks.

  • Don’t install Sage Timeslips directly on Azure or AWS for desktop-based access.

  • Don’t store the live database in cloud-hosted storage environments.

  • Store Timeslips backup files in cloud storage if needed, and Sage recommends this for redundancy.

Mobile and remote data entry

User can enter the time and expense slips off-site using the Sage Timeslips Go. The administrator will then synchronize to the on-premises system to download the slip entries.
