Common Payroll Year-End Questions (Canadian Payroll)

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage 300 allows Canadian Payroll users to create tax forms without closing the payroll year. There are different formats for T4 and Relevé 1 slips.

Resolution

Obtain T4 or Relevé 1 tax forms

  • Order T4 forms directly from the Canada Revenue Agency
  • Order Relevé 1 forms directly from Revenue Québec

Choose Relevé 1 print formats

  • Laser printer format prints Relevé 1 data only on pre-printed forms
  • Plain paper format prints Relevé 1 data and the form on blank 8.5” x 11” paper
  • Provide paper copies to employees, but don’t submit plain paper copies to Revenue Québec

Choose T4 print formats

  • Laser printer format prints T4 data only on pre-printed forms
  • Plain paper format prints T4 data and the form on blank paper

Print limits and timing

  • You can print T4 slips as many times as needed

Close the payroll year

  • You never close the payroll at year-end
  • Continue processing payrolls normally when the calendar year changes
  • Payrolls use the year based on the period end date
  • After completing year-end tasks, back up data. Run Delete Inactive Records to remove terminated employees and obsolete information

Produce prior-year T4s

  • Sage 300 allows T4 creation after processing new-year payrolls
  • Enter the prior year in the Payment Year field when generating T4s
