Error: "SQL Server version are not compatible, Migration Wizard cannot continue" when migrating

Cause

  • The Source and Target SQL Instance (Database) are not the same version
    NOTE: In most cases the Source SQL Instance is a higher build
  • Selecting (Local\SQL instance) rather than (Server\SQL instance) when prompted for SQL instance (possibly also related to running Migration.exe vs Migrate.exe in the \MAS90\Migration\ folder and choosing Local server)

  • Wrong password for the SA user (SQL) was entered in Migration information screen(s).

Sage can't assist with database administration and isn't responsible for errors resulting from database changes. Back up your system and application databases required for a complete restore. Consider contacting a certified consultant or your database administrator for assistance.

  • Check the Version of both SQL Instances using the steps belwo
    1. Log into the Source and Target SQL Instance using Micrsoft SQL Server Managment Studio
    2. In the Object Explorer section view the SQL Build Number for each SQL Instance

    3. Update the Target Instance, if the Source Instance is a higher version (See Addtional Information section below, for links to SQL Service Packs)
  • If you're migrating from one server to another and using the same base version of SQL Server (e.g. SQL Server 2008 is installed on both servers), verify that both versions are on the same Service Pack.
  • Add Inbound Firewall Rule for Source and Target SQL Instances (see Article: How to configure Windows Firewall for Sage 100 Advanced and Premium (video) )
