Disposing an asset in only one book

Resolution

NOTE:

It isn't possible to dispose or un-dispose an asset in one book only.  A disposal transaction will apply across all books within the asset.

Workaround One: Replicate the asset you want to dispose so there are two copies of the asset. Modify the entries so the one carries only the books you want to dispose. The other carries only the books to remain active. Then dispose the asset entry:

  1. From the Asset Detail view: Go to, Asset, Replicate, enter 2, click OK.
  2. Inactivate the original asset (From the Asset Detail view: Go to Asset, Inactivate, click Save.)
  3. Modify the replicated assets:
    • In the asset you're disposing, zero out all books except the ones you're disposing the asset in:
      • Enter 0 into Acquisition Value, click Save, click Yes, select Placed-in Service date, click OK.
      • Dispose the asset normally.
    • In the asset, which will continue to depreciate, zero out the other books:
      • Enter 0 into Acquisition Value, click Save, click Yes, select Placed-in Service date, click OK.
      • Run depreciation on the asset normally.

Workaround Two: Dispose the whole asset, and create another to replace it at a reduced value:

  1. Dispose the original asset as normal. Set the Gain/Loss to N in all book except the one to remain disposed.
  2. Create a new asset. Don't populate the book you're disposing.
  3. Use the net book value from the original asset as the Acquired Value.
    • Use the disposal date of the original asset as the Placed-in Service date.
    • Use RV as the Depreciation Method.
    • Use the remaining life of the original asset as the Estimated Life.
