Summary
Crystal Reports 2020 can prevent saving suppression formulas through standard formatting dialogs. As a workaround, using the Formula Workshop method allows edits and creation of suppression formulas successfully.
Cause
This is a known SAP Crystal Reports issue for version 2020 released with Sage 100 2023.0.
Resolution
Edit an existing suppression formula
Use Formula Workshop to modify suppression formulas.
- Select Report, Formula Workshop.
- Expand Formatting Formulas.
- Expand the section that contains the field.
- Expand the field that contains the suppression formula.
- Select Suppress.
- Edit the formula as needed.
- Click Save and close.
Create a new suppression formula
Use Formula Workshop to create suppression formulas.
- Select Report, Formula Workshop.
- Expand Formatting Formulas.
- Expand the section that contains the field.
- Right‑click the field, and select New Formatting Formula.
- In New Formatting Formula, select Suppress from the dropdown list.
- Click Use Editor.
- Enter the suppression formula.
- Click Save and close.
Using the Formula Workshop avoids the issue and saves suppression formulas correctly.

Steps to duplicate
- In Crystal Reports 2020, open a report.
- Insert a Text Object on the report.
- Right-click on the Text Object, and select "Format".
- In the Format Editor window, under the tab "Common" click the "X-2" button of the option "Suppress".
- Enter a conditional suppression formula, and click "Save and Close".
- In the Format Editor, the formula icon next to Suppress turns red.
- Close the Format Editor window.
- The Conditional Suppression formula disappeared.
