Prepare database configuration for Sage 300 upgrades

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage 300 uses updated database connection settings for new installs and version upgrades. These changes affect DSNs, ODBC drivers, certificates, and web screen security.

Resolution

Update database settings before you install or upgrade Sage 300.

Sage 300 now creates new DSNs using ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server. The recommended connection method uses Server in Database Setup.

Existing DSNs that use SQL Server Native Client drivers continue to work until further notice.

For new installs, such as 2023, or upgrades that create new DSNs, SQL Server requires a server certificate.

  • Name the certificate exactly the same as the SQL Server name
  • Purchase and install the certificate before starting the upgrade
  • Work with your IT team to avoid install delays

Use the Microsoft reference below for certificate setup details.

NOTE:

Sage 300cloud web screens require Secure Socket Layer (SSL). External access also needs extra protection, such as a VPN. Consult with your IT professional or Sage Business Partner if needed.
