Summary

New implementations and prior version upgrades of Sage 300 may require additional or different database configurations as overall security has been enhanced.

Description

New implementations and prior version upgrades of Sage 300 may require additional or different database configurations as overall security has been enhanced starting with the following versions:

  • 2023
  • 2022.3 (PU3)
  • 2021.6 (PU6)

Resolution

One significant change related to database connections is new DSNs setup by the system will be defaulting to use the newly supported ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server. The preferred method for connecting to an SQL database will be by Server in Database Setup. Existing DSNs with the driver implementation like 2023 or in an upgrade where a new DSN using the ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server to connect, will require a Server Certificate be in place for SQL to connect to the SQL database properly. The required Certificate will need to be named exactly the same as the server name. It is important to plan with our IT staff to purchase a Server Certificate and have it in place to avoid any delays in your installation. A Microsoft link about Certificates is available below for your IT staff for reference:

NOTE: To use Sage 300cloud web screens, data must be protected with Secure Socket Layer (SSL). When using Sage 300cloud web screens over an external network or the internet, additional security measures are required, such as a Virtual Private Network (VPN). To determine appropriate security measures, consult with your information technology (IT) professional or Sage Business Partner.
