Error: "Failed to connect to the specified SQL Server...application is not allowed..."

Summary

When connecting to Sage 100 Contractor, the error "Failed to connect to the specified SQL Server. This application is not allowed to connect to the server. Contact your Company Administrator." displays.

Description

The ERRORLOG in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL15.SAGE100CON\MSSQL\Log will contain a message similar to the following: 

"2025-11-20 13:43:32.10 spid53 SAGE ERROR 50006: Members of the sysadmin server role can only connect to this server from the server machine."

 

Cause

Workstations can't connect to the server from the program if the check mark is set in Database Administration, Advanced Settings, Advanced SQL Server Settings, Limit Access for members of the "sysadmin" role to this machine only.

 

 

Resolution

  1. Open Database Administration.
  2. Go to Advanced Settings, Advanced SQL Server Settings.
  3. Deselect the box labeled Limit access for members of the sysadmin role to this machine only.
  4. Click Save Changes.
