Migrating data to Sage Fixed Assets Cloud, including backups, database creation, restores, purge options, and best practices.
NOTE:
-
The following assumes you’re migrating from an on‑premises Sage Fixed Assets product (Lite, Single User, or Network) to Sage Fixed Assets Cloud.
Completed onboarding and be able to see your SFA icons in the Windows App before proceeding.
- You can restore company Backup files (BBK) from as far back as 2012.0 into the latest version of the program.
-
The process is the same for CIP except the Project Backups are CBK files made through the CIP program.
Open your currently installed Sage Fixed Assets Depreciation or Tracking product:
- Go to: File Company Utilities, Backup Company.
- Choose a database from the dropdown menu.
- Click Select All or just the companies you want to migrate.
- Select a location to save the backup file.
- Enter a name for the backup file in the File name field. This can be the original database name.
- Click Save and then wait for the process to complete.
- Repeat for each database.
Create a new database in the SFA Cloud: (Optional if you have one BBK file to restore)
- In the Window App, open the SFA DB Utility – Depreciation and Tracking and click Add...
- Enter a Database File Name and Database Name, and click OK. This can be the original database name. Leave the database location as the default location on the server.
- The New database will then appear under the Database Name: list.

- Copy your Company Backup (BBK) files to the Backups (G:) drive.
Restore your Company or Companies in Sage Fixed Assets Cloud:
- In the Windows App, launch the SFA – Depreciation or SFA – Tracking.
- Go to: File, Company Utilities, Restore Company.
- Browse to the Backups (G:) drive where the App stores Backup files. Highlight a backup file.
- Highlight the Companies to restore. Click the Select All button or Hold the key down while selecting multiple but not all companies. Click Next.
- Select the database you want to restore the company into from the Database dropdown and click Next.
Note: The Existing companies listed on this dialog are informational only. You can only select a database. - Restore - Purge History option:
-
If you select Purge All Depreciation Events (Recommended), the restore process runs faster.
It's also less likely to go Not Responding during the Eventlog restore.
-
If you select Do not purge or Purge depreciation events through, the restore process takes longer based on the asset count and historical data.
Sage Fixed Assets sometimes shows Not Responding during the process.
To retain historical asset information, allow the restore to complete.
- Click Restore.
Note: Don’t interfere with this process. Ending the task presents a high risk of corrupting the database.
