Description

This FAQ answers common questions in simple terms.  This FAQ helps you prepare for this change, check system compatibility, upgrade smoothly, and troubleshoot issues.

Resolution

▼What is changing in Sage 100 2026 regarding Windows versions?

Sage 100 2026 will only run on 64-bit versions of Windows. It won’t install on 32-bit Windows at all. If you try to run the Sage 100 2026 installer on a 32-bit computer, the installer will stop and display an error.  For example, "This app can’t run on your PC". You must have a 64-bit Windows operating system to use Sage 100 2026.

▼How can I check if my computer is 64-bit compatible?
Check your Windows "System Type". On Windows 10 or 11, go to Settings > System > About (or open Control Panel > System). Look for "System type". It will say "64-bit Operating System" (if your Windows is 64-bit) or "32-bit Operating System". If it shows 32-bit, that machine can’t run Sage 100 2026. You need to upgrade Windows to a 64-bit version (on compatible hardware) or use Sage 100 2026 on a different 64-bit computer.
▼Why is the Sage 100 download now 64-bit only?

To improve security and performance with modern technology. Older 32-bit systems have limitations in memory and security. Sage 100 2026 drops support for 32-bit Windows to keep the software secure and up-to-date with current standards. Focusing on 64-bit systems allows Sage 100 to run more efficiently and take advantage of the latest Windows improvements. Also, most modern computers and operating systems are 64-bit, since 32-bit Windows is now outdated.

▼What are the system requirements for Sage 100 2026?

The main requirement change is the 64-bit Windows OS.

  • Operating System: 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or higher (Windows 11 supported).  We don't support 32-bit editions.
  • Current Sage 100 Version: Verify you are on Sage 100 version 2021 or newer before upgrading to 2026. (If you have an older version, update to at least 2021 first.)
  • Hardware: A 64-bit capable CPU (most PCs made in the last ~10 years are 64-bit). Ensure you have sufficient RAM and disk space per Sage’s recommendation.  Typically 8 GB RAM or more for server installations.
  • Permissions: Administrator rights on the computer to install or upgrade Sage 100.
▼How do I prepare for the upgrade to Sage 100 2026 (64-bit)?

Plan ahead and follow these steps to upgrade.  Following these steps will ensure your system is ready for Sage 100 2026 and help avoid installation problems. Always schedule enough time for the upgrade, and if possible, perform it first in a test environment.

Step/Check

What to Do

1. Verify Windows is 64-bit

Check your operating system on each server and PC. Ensure they’re running a 64-bit version of Windows. Sage 100 2026 won’t run on 32-bit OS.

2. Update Sage 100 (if needed)

Make sure you are on Sage 100 version 2021 or later. If you’re on a version older than 2021, upgrade to a supported interim version first.

3. Back Up Your Data

Before making any major change, back up your Sage 100 data and customizations. This ensures you can recover if something unexpected happens.

4. Run the 32- to 64-bit Switch Utility

Sage provides a tool called 32_64_Bit_Switch_Utility. Run this utility on your current Sage 100 installation. It converts your existing 32-bit Sage 100 data and program files to a 64-bit-ready format in place.

5. Uninstall old Sage 100 (32-bit)

Remove any 32-bit Sage 100 versions from the machine before installing 2026. Do this on the server and any workstations. (You can’t keep an old 32-bit Sage 100 alongside the new version — it will cause conflicts.)

6. Install Sage 100 2026 (64-bit)

Start the installer for Sage 100 2026. It will automatically install the 64-bit program. (64-bit is the only mode available.  32-bit won't be on the list to select.)

7. Reconfigure Sage 100 services

If you use Sage 100 Advanced/Premium (which runs a Sage Application Server service), reinstall or update that service after the upgrade. The service must run the new 64-bit Sage 100 program files.

8. Update integrations

Check all third-party add-ons or integrations (for example, payroll modules, custom add-ons). Contact those vendors to get 64-bit compatible updates. Install or update those components so they work with Sage 100 2026.

▼Can I run a 32-bit Sage 100 and the new 64-bit Sage 100 2026 on the same machine?

No. You can't run them side by side on one computer. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Sage 100 can't coexist on the same machine. They share certain program files in the Windows system (in the C:\ProgramData\Sage\Common Components folder).  Those shared files get overwritten by the last version you installed. This means if you install Sage 100 2026 (64-bit), it will replace shared components with 64-bit versions.  This causes any older 32-bit Sage 100 on that computer to break. For this reason, you must uninstall the 32-bit version before installing 2026. If you need to retain access to an older Sage 100, install the new version on a different machine or use a virtual machine. But don’t try to keep both on one system.

▼What if I get an error or the Sage 100 2026 installer won't run?

If the installer won’t run or shows an error message, here are some common causes and solutions:

  • The installer says "Cannot run on your PC" or similar: This typically means your Windows is 32-bit. The Sage 100 2026 installer is designed to abort on 32-bit systems to prevent an incompatible installation. Solution: Move to a 64-bit computer or upgrade your Windows to 64-bit. There’s no workaround to run 2026 on 32-bit.
  • Installer detects an existing Sage 100: If you haven’t removed the old 32-bit Sage 100, the 2026 installer will stop or prompt you. Uninstall the old version and then rerun the installer. Also make sure you ran the 32-64 bit switch utility beforehand if coming from an older installation.
  • Errors after installing (for example, "NewObject Error" or other script errors when launching Sage 100): This can happen if some old 32-bit components are still present or a third-party add-on isn’t compatible. To fix this, ensure all older Sage 100 programs aren't installed, and reinstall the 2026 workstation/client on affected PCs. Also verify that any add-ons or custom scripts are updated to 64-bit versions — an outdated 32-bit plugin can cause errors.
  • Error during conversion or upgrade: If the 32_64_Bit_Switch_Utility fails or you encounter issues during conversion, double-check that your current Sage version is 2021+ and that you have a good backup. You can seek help from Sage support or a Sage business partner if the conversion tool doesn’t work for your scenario. Sometimes, installing Sage 100 2026 on a new 64-bit machine and migrating your data is an alternative approach.

If you run into any other problems, you can search the Sage Knowledgebase or contact Sage Support for further assistance. But usually, following the compatibility checks and steps above will prevent errors.

▼Do I need to update my third-party integrations or custom programs?

Yes. All integrations, add-ons, and custom solutions must be 64-bit compatible to work with Sage 100 2026. If you use third-party products (for example, an integrated CRM system, payroll add-ons, or custom Crystal Reports DLLs), reach out to those vendors or your Sage business partner to get updates. Many vendors have released 64-bit versions or patches for Sage 100 2026. Make sure to install those updates. Running an old 32-bit add-on with the new Sage will likely result in errors or the add-on not functioning. In short, update everything connected to Sage 100 to 64-bit versions for a smooth transition.

▼Additional Technical Notes
  • Installer Behavior: The Sage 100 2026 installer always installs the 64-bit program. It no longer asks you to choose 32-bit or 64-bit (that option has been removed). If your system isn’t 64-bit, the installer will stop automatically to prevent installation.
  • Shared Files Conflict: Sage 100 uses shared system files located in C:\ProgramData\Sage\Common Components. When you install Sage 100 2026, these common files are updated to 64-bit versions. Therefore, a 32-bit Sage 100 installation can’t run on the same machine afterward (the 32-bit program’s shared files are replaced by 64-bit files, causing errors in the 32-bit program). Always remove the old versions before installing the new one.
  • Workstation Upgrades: In a network setup, after updating the server to 2026, each user workstation will need to run the new Workstation Setup (to install the 64-bit client components). Ensure all client PCs are 64-bit OS as well.
  • No Mixed Environments: A Sage 100 workstation can connect to a 64-bit Sage 100 2026 server or a 32-bit Sage 100 2025 (or earlier) server, but not both at the same time. Mixing connections can require reinstalling the workstation software each time, so plan to transition fully to the 2026 version to avoid confusion.
  • Backwards Compatibility: Data from recent Sage 100 versions (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) will migrate to 2026 using the conversion utility. However, once converted to 64-bit, that data can’t be opened with older 32-bit Sage 100. Keep backups before conversion in case you need to revert or reference the old system.
  • Support: Sage will support Sage 100 2026 on supported 64-bit Windows versions (see the Sage Supported Platforms documentation for specifics). Windows 7 and any 32-bit Windows aren’t supported. If you have any doubts about your environment, consult the Sage 100 Supported Platform Matrix or contact support for guidance.
