| How do I manually transfer company data from a recovered or backed up data location? |
Resolution | Option I: Sage 50 has been installed on the new computer If the entire data location or hard drive was recovered and Sage 50 has been installed on the new machine, move the individual companies and any custom forms from the recovery location to the new data path: - Browse to the directory where your backed up or recovered company data is stored.
- Locate the folder for the individual company or companies used.
Note: Individual company directory names will use the first 3 characters of the first portion of the company name, the first 3 characters of the second part of the name, and the first 2 characters of any additional portions of the name. e.g., Bellwether Garden Supply would be in a folder titled BelGarSu. - Right-click the folder and select Copy.
- Browse to the data path on the new computer that will host the company data. See Article ID 10165: DocLink: How to find data path and program path.
Note: Data should always be put in the datapath - Right-click within the folder and select Paste.
- If you previously used custom forms, browse to the Forms folder in your backup or recovery location.
- Highlight all the files within the folder, then right click on one of the highlighted files and select Copy.
- Browse to the Forms folder in the data path on the new computer.
- Right-click within the folder and select Paste.
- If prompted to overwrite any existing files, select No.
- Within Sage 50, go to File, Open Company.
- Verify your company data is available.
Option II: Sage 50 has not been installed on the new computer yet
If Sage 50 has not been installed on the new computer yet, and the entire data location was recovered (the folder where all companies were stored) you can move this location to the new machine and specify it as the directory for your data location when installing the program: - Browse to the directory where your backed up or recovered company data is stored.
- Locate the folder where all company data is stored.
- Right-click the directory and select Copy.
- Browse to the location where the data will be stored on the new machine
- Right-click within the directory and select Paste.
- Install Sage 50.
- When prompted for the data location, select the directory that was copied to the new machine.
- After the install completes, open Sage 50 and go to File, Open Company.
- Verify your company data is available.
