How many years can be open?
Description
Cause
Resolution
  • Sage 50–U.S. Edition allows two chronologically-ordered years to be open and active
  • Typically the first open year occupies periods 1 through 12 and the second open year occupies periods 13 through 24
Example: If 2023 and 2024 are open years, periods 1-12 correspond to the months in 2023 and periods 13-24 correspond to the months in 2024
  • To work in the next year, run the Year-End Wizard to close the first open year and open the next year
  • Once a year is closed, you can view, but not edit or print, transactions from that year and print Financial Statements and General Ledger reports for that year
  • If you need to access the closed year's data beyond this, you can restore a backup to a new company
  • If you need to make changes to account balances in a closed year, you can do so with beginning balance adjustments by going to Maintain, Chart of Accounts, and clicking Beginning Balances
