| Error: "When naming a pay type, the name must start with a letter, be at least two characters long, and it cannot have spaces or special characters." |
Cause | A pay type has a name that does not follow the naming guidelines. |
Resolution |
When naming pay types, the given name must follow the guidelines listed in the error message: must start with a letter, be at least two characters long, and cannot contain spaces or special characters. The Pay Type name field also cannot be blank.
Note: An underscore ( _ ) can be used in the name of a pay type. Pay type names are limited to 15 characters.
- Click OK on the message; the Pay Type name that needs to be changed will be highlighted
Note: The pay type just added may not be the field that is causing the error
- Change the indicated name field to follow the naming guidelines: If the field is not going to be used, re-enter the placeholder name (Rate for Hourly pay types and Salary for Salary pay types) and make sure the GL Account Number field is empty
- Click Next
- If the error recurs, it is because there is another pay type that does not meet the naming guidelines. You will need to fix that indicated field too.
- Repeat Steps 4-5 until the Payroll Settings window moves to the next screen without error
- Click Finish
