Use telnet commands to test port functionality

Turn on telnet

  1. From Windows, select Start and type Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs, Programs and Features.
  3. In the left column, select Turn Windows features on or off.
  4. Check the box next to Telnet Client.
  5. Click OK.

To run a telnet test

  1. From Windows, select Start and type Run.
  2. In the 'Open' field, type CMD and click OK.
  3. At the prompt, type the following: Telnet server name 3351 or Telnet server name 1583. The server name is the name of your Sage BusinessWorks server.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. If Telnet is successful, the telnet screen displays with a blinking cursor.

Troubleshoot unsuccessful connection with a Network Technician

  1. Open ports 1583 and 3351 in the Firewall at the server. 
  2. Replace the "server name" with the server's IP address. To find the IP address of the server, use the ipconfig command at the server.
    • If telnet is successful, this indicates a DNS or WINS resolution issue
