| | How to change the Account Type or Account Class of a general ledger account number |
| Cause | Currently, the Account type cannot be changed on an account if the G/L account contains transaction history. |
| Resolution | - Rename the existing account to an unused account number through GL, Accounts, Maintain Chart of Accounts, Rename. Tip: Use a large number such as 9999 so it will drop to the bottom of your chart of accounts
- Create a new account through GL, Accounts, Maintain Chart of Accounts, New and select the correct class and type
- Transfer the balance from the old account to the new account using one of the options below
- Option 1:
Enter a journal entry to transfer only the balance from the old account to the new account - Option 2:
Reverse each entry from the old account and reenter the transactions with the original transaction dates and the new renumbered account.
